July 2019 saw at least two murders taking place in Barbados (32 for the year so far). Both of them took place in St. Michael. The victims were male and died as a result of gun and knife related violence. The data was collected and compiled based on available media reports at the time. Hi, crime statistics cam best be produced by normalizing the data and report the figure e.g per 1,000 inhabitants.
For example:
St Michael: 10,000 inhabitants, 14 murders comes out to 1.4 per 1,000 inhabitants
St Philip: 4,500 inhabitants, 7 murders comes out to 1.6 per 1,000 inhabitants
Christ Church:8,000 inhabitants, 5 murders comes out to 0.6 per 1,000 inhabitants
In absolute figures St M is the highest, but per 1,000 inhabitants St Philips is worse (1.6 vs 1.4).
